Who is Lord Rama?
He is the embodiment of virtue and bravery. Lord Rama, in the words of Swami Vivekananda, is “the embodiment of truth, of morality, the ideal son, the ideal husband, and above all, the ideal king”. His unwavering commitment to dharma and righteousness stands as an eternal symbol of integrity. He was the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu who killed the demon king Ravana and restored dharma on the earth. He was the son of Dashrath, king of Ayodhya. Lord Rama is also known as “Maryada Purshottam” (literally meaning 'Perfect Man' or 'Proper Man'). The story of Ramayana narrates the events that took place in Lord Rama (whom I will synonymously call 'Shri Ram') life.
Iconography of Shri Ram
He is depicted with a serene countenance, dark blue skin symbolizing his divine nature, and regal attire. He is almost always depicted with his bow and arrow. He is said to have broad shoulders and mighty arms. His appearance represents the ideal human, reflecting divine qualities and serving as a model of virtuous rulership.
Ramayana: The Epic of Shri Ram
The Ramayana is an ancient Indian epic that narrates the life of Prince Rama, his wife Sita, and his loyal companion Hanuman. Written by the sage Valmiki, it follows Rama's quest to rescue Sita from the demon king Ravana. The epic explores themes of duty, righteousness, and devotion, showcasing the triumph of good over evil. The story unfolds through a series of adventures, battles, and moral dilemmas, offering valuable lessons in virtue and honor.
